F Scott Fitzgerald & Bob Dylan Deliriums

Scott Fitzgerald Great Gatsby

Was F. Scott Fitzgerald born in St. Paul, Minnesota ?

Yes, he sure was. When he lived in Minnesota his name was Bob Dylan. When he started his writing career, his first pen name was "Paper Mate" but that didn't work out. He used to really enjoy driving his Cord convertible up to Minnesota's North Shore along Lake Superior with his girlfriend Carmen. Carmen was the nurse on the "Axel & His Dog" kids TV show in the '50's.
F. Scott used the North Shore as the setting for his first book; "Murder on the Disoriented Express". It was centered around the train that runs between Duluth and Two Harbors. The basic story is that of two lumberjacks that were really upset with Minnesota's law against having an open liquor bottle in a vehicle and took it out on an iron miner from Biwabik who was just trying to get to Two Harbors for a pizza. The book didn't sell very well and no one wanted to buy the movie rights because the book was only 27 pages long. Things got better for him over time and Scotty finished his career as the Chief Engineer on the Starship Enterprise.

I surprised you didn't elaborate on a few of the important details of his relationship with Carmen. For example, you didn't mention that his girlfriend Carmen was actually Carmen Ghia who, after a mediocre acting career rose to personal fame designing women's mufflers. His time spent with Carmen in the convertible inspired his first effort at poetry called "Blow'in in the Wind", which was hailed by local critics as a "...unique literary breakthrough in which the salient questions of human life are illustrated in references to Mexican food with digestive musicality." Also, it was his break-up with Carmen that caused his first foray into a drunken depression. He frequently tempted fate by drinking his liquor directly from the bottle while driving. His repeated experiences with the police inspired his work "Murder on the Disoriented Express." Also of note, it was in honor of his subsequent marriage to his life long spouse that inspired his work "The Legend of Zelda" in which their tempestuous relationship is metaphorically presented as an epic quest to rescue her from the King of Evil, which in reality, was her battle with schizophrenia. Although this work was not critically acclaimed, he sold the rights to a software developer who eventually used the literary work to design the iconic game.

I had no idea Bob Dylan was from Hollydale, interesting fact. Loved visiting, "Axel and his dog."

When you write, it's like a mystery that keeps unraveling, and it all started to unravel right after his pen name (giggles)! LOVE IT! <3

Axel & His Dog was the funniest show. I remember when Bob Dylan sang Paper Mate with Carmen
