Fields in Slumber

Fields in Slumber

Snowflakes pure white that paint fading green
warm breezes replaced by frigid still presence
the trees are naked and brown

seasons colors are dimmed
red barns seem to glow

fields in slumber as the lazy sun rises
the labors of summer fleeting, trailing in mind
roosters call quickly ... the cattle lie passive
the children have blankets inside

as you peer through a window
the farmhouse stands beaming
seasons meld flow and mingle, as winter moves past
lights, decorations, smells of pie - smells of bread
family gathered with smiles ... it's Christmas at last
