One day I was reading a post about Vintage Radios, and it sparked my enthusiasm for a vintage desk I own. It was made in the late 20's and was owned by my Great Grandfather Hollydale.
A Vintage Writing Desk can have many forms and styles, but most were smaller than current models, and had time consuming hand craftsmanship that made them unique.
When you open this Vintage Desk, you find many small cubby holes, a small pull out drawer, and the original writing pad! It is hand made with leather backing and corners, and thick multi-ply writing papers as a creative surface.
It is amazing and exciting to me that I can use this exquisite piece ... just as my Great Grandfather did.
When I first brought this Vintage Desk home, it was not in very good shape. After some structural work and minor wood repairs, it is now looking fantastic. I never had much interest in antiques or Vintage Furniture in the past. Times change, and I am now in search of a matching chair. The rest of my place has an updated modern feel to it, so I think this vintage desk is the perfect accompaniment and adds a nice focal point to my sun room.

I like our desks better today, but these certainly didn't take up tons of room like my desk does. I've seen a lot of cool ones too. Vintage that is. I like your desk a lot.

I actually have three desks, one being a gargantuan wrap around monster. They all have specific purposes.
I only use the vintage desk periodically for OLD FASHIONED snail mails :-)
LOVE the desk! I have one that's very similar...dont know how old it is but... it's older than me so it's gotta be an antique! ;)

Let me try this again...what I had said was that I love antiques and this Vintage desk is a very nice piece. I like to go around to the antiques flea markets and estate sales during the summer months, it is amazing the treasures you can find at them. You might have some luck finding a chair that would be a good match on ebay or craig's list...and may even get a bargain.
I think it was quite touching that you refurbished your grandfather's desk, I imagine it brings back fond memories for you and makes you feel closer to him when you look at it. That makes me smile. :)

That is cool! I have a similar desk as well that was my great grandmother's. It's in pretty good shape, except for a crack that I'm not sure I can do anything about.
I like that I can use something that's been in the family for so long. And, maybe one day it'll continue on to the next generation.
