How many of you are familiar with Twitter?
Some hate it, some like it, and some are sadly addicted to it. There are people that "talk" on Twitter all day long ... every day.
I use it mostly with my cell phone. I can be traveling across the Midwest and have a conversation with another blogger in Australia. The other thing I like is being able to "mini post" to my sidebar. When I "Tweet" something, or upload a photo, it is sent to the widget on the upper right side of my page by a feed.
Here is the strange part, so called celebrities are also on Twitter. Do I think "THEY" are actually typing in small messages? No ... not for a minute. Barack Obama has a Twitter account, and I would bet 10 Trillion he has never actually sat down and wrote something for the masses. In any case, he has a huge following. Twitter users are un-proportionally LIBERALS. I think that stems from 95% of them having to much time on their hands.
Over the weekend, I did not use Twitter much, but when I checked to see what people were talking about, they were all loosing there minds about a security breech. The warnings were "not to click any links, nor enter passwords ANYWHERE". Wide spread panic and chaos by Tweet Masters across the board. Their "lifeline might be cut" !! It sounded more like LIVES WERE IN JEOPARDY.
Turns out the breach was caused "mainly" by a hacker that found his way into the main server, and gained administrative capabilities. Britney Spears was now appearing to be losing her mind with a hacker making her updates. My question is, how could anyone really tell? This of course became big news, and was even on my Google Home Page. How dare anyone mess with Obama? (or who zombie followers THINK is Obama)

Typical tweet: Driving back from the shop after riding 4 hours. I hear the drug testers are waiting at the house.
Followers: 19,661 (following 43 back)
Twitverdict: Plenty of tedious training updates, interspersed with family news and BBQ recommendations. Like reading toilet paper

Typical tweet: Startn 2morro if u c a homeless person, feedem, only if u can

Typical tweet: Terry Gilliam invented Time Travel (hence his Time Bandits film). We went forward in time, watched YouTube, and stole our own ideas. Clever!

It was an, ahem, exciting weekend.
I tried to do what I could to keep people aware of what was going on. But, geez, you could watch tweets and see things descend into near hysteria.
It started with the phishing scheme. Now, the only way they could get your password is if you logged into the phishing site which had the fake Twitter page. If you didn't do that, you were okay.
But, things quickly went to people warning not to CLICK on the sites, which led to people being afraid to open their DMs, thinking they would be "infected" if they even received a phishing message.
Then, the advice went around to change your password, so you'd see people tweeting about how they received a phishing DM, so they immediately changed their password, but then were befuddled as to why they would receive another phishing DM.
Then, news broke earlier today that, in a separate incident, some high-profile accounts on Twitter were hacked. Oy...
Anyway, you can understand why some places have laws against things like yelling "FIRE!" in a crowded theater. Even on the computer, people can quickly fall under the influence of mass hysteria.
At any rate, it appears that most of my followers were not victims of the phishing, as I received very few phishing DMs. Maybe two dozen all together. I saw people with fewer followers tweeting about being inundated with the phishing DMs. One person claimed to be receiving one about every five minutes. I don't know if those statements were true or an exaggeration.

I remember EXACTLY when and where I made that tweet. I was at the travel center on the way back from Canada. FREEZING cold, and I was homesick. Tweets make me "somehow" feel connected, and with friends.

You forgot to mention an upcoming Twitter; Jerry Rice. He is the real deal because he has worked with us here in Japan do some recording last year. Apparently his son introduced him to the Twitter Universe.
By the way, I have also been talking with Hammer about coming to Japan also to make some tracks. Unlike Jerry Rice, Hammer is well known over here in Rising Sun Land.

I love Twitter. I remember fighting, scratching and crawling to get higher and higher rated in stuff like Technorati, and what do you get out of it? Not much, as I recall. It's like, why'd I go through all that effort?
Now, from Twitter, I'm get daily traffic to my blog from it. And, I meet new people. I've found it much easier to stay in touch with people than blog hopping around.
Oh, I need to get back into the habit of blog hopping again. I know I keep neglecting to visit people.
Geez, I wish all my blogging pals were on Twitter. They were among my first followers/followees on Twitter, and I rarely see so many of them anymore.

I use a LOT of different recources.
For instance, I had NO interest in Facebook. I was there looking for where traffic was coming from, and had to "join" to find out.
Next thing I know, people come out of the woodwork!!! Many that had quit blogging, and were AWOL as far as I knew.
Also, I get messages from My Blog Log and Email.
Twitter is what I would call "fun" ... and I am glad my pal Olga told me to check it out !!!

I'm not on FB yet, but I've got people that keep asking me to join them there. I probably will at some point.
I'm still on MBL, but, honestly, I rarely read the messages. It's mostly just people linking to their latest blog post. Of course, I think those were the only messages I ever sent through MBL too. If people need to reach me, they can find me on Twitter. LOL!
I didn't signup on Twitter for a long time; I just didn't see the point. I figured it would be like so many of the other things I've signed up for that don't really do much but take up your time. But Twitter is great for meeting people, getting traffic to your blog, business, and multiple things. It's not just about promoting your blog, though too many bloggers use it as some kind of RSS feed. It's pretty multi-purpose.
I mean, I can even get breaking news before I hear it anywhere else. Like that Denver plane crash a couple weeks ago. I heard about that first on Twitter from people in the area.
DCR ... I too saw the little widgets that people had on their sidebar with Twitter updates, and knew about it. I just did not pursue what seemed to be tiny bits of useless information.
What I found is that the communication at Twitter is much stronger than I ever expected.
Another really great tool is being able to text someone ... for instance, I can be in direct contact with someone, yet they do not know my phone number. As far as mobile web goes, Twitter is the MAIN HUB. It also allows me to find posts when on the run. I always forget the URL of every user is at their Twitter home page.
I WISH the tiny URL's were not set up to open in another window. Obviously my phone cannot open another window!!

I think that many do not notice that many tweets are mobile or text deliveries. It is very hard to respond with any speed or consistancy.
I remember seeing the REV texting in tweets a while back, so I shot him a DM. He had no idea the his cell would get the message!
