Hollydale Golf Dreams

Hollydale Golf Dreams

There was a soft glow of sunlight that shimmered through a small opening in the hazy grey skies, and seemed to linger over each turn I made. My golf course was private, and my solitude was only circumnavigated by my one playing companion. Raw majestic beauty shook the core of my spirit as my eyes were dazzled with bright hues of green ... and grandeur. I could stay in this one location for eternity. Indeed, that was the evident fact as days and months rolled by.
The club I played was private, not because of hierarchy or status quo, but because the parameters were guarded and patrolled from both inward and outward traffic. My mind was pacified by this, and focused. The jail I resided in was not one of contempt, but of freedom. Ironically it seemed to be my own fortress of serenity.
I became proficient and powerful with the set of tools I carried. Even the most simple of weapons can take decades to master. The defined sharp motions of a machine combined with fluid grace of Samurai embodied each effort to conquer this play field. My rewards were not in numbers, but yet in visual accomplishment. There are so few things in life that reward is assured for effort. Sometimes I wonder if there really are any other arenas that can hold this to be true.
Thoughts of pain, disquietude, and contrition were all held at bay as I made my way from each tee to green. The joy in just this one aspect was savory. Futile are those that seek for light, when they are surrounded by darkness. A simple statement ... yes, but one only self evident with the reflections resonating from forgiveness and hope.
My journey here will be lifelong, and irresolute - If only in my dreams ...

Wow, Speedy. Golfing really does give you a sense of peace, doesn't it? I've never been golfing so I can't relate in that way, but I can relate to the feelings you are describing here. This sounds like what your image of heaven would be like, maybe? Am I right? I enjoyed reading this. I hope your dream comes true someday. :)

(maybe without the alien space ship thingies or whatever those are in the air, though, that looks a little scary!) ha ha! ;)

I hope you can stay warm today. It is -7 degrees here WITHOUT the wind chill. With the wind chill, I think it is around -20.

Chris said...

Wow Daisy... A HEAT WAVE!!! :)

Speedy, I want to know when you are going to offer that first pic in poster size in your "Speedy Golf Store." It's AWESOME! I think Blockbuster needs one to advertise the movie (for it is most certainly on the way!!!).

So...a hole in one?
Inquiring minds want to know?

(seriously-cool piece)

Can I come play too?

I REALLY love this Speedy...on many levels...besides the fact that you hold golfing (& all that it inspires) so near & dear to your heart...there really is something quite magical, surreal, & peaceful about a beautiful course (unless I'm golfing...then "Dang It!" ringing out every 15 minutes kinda wrecks The Spell...)

Anyhoo...great post & great photo! I have a feeling this photo is a special one. ;)

What a terrific dream Speedy. Love the first photograph too. It's so... YOU!

Have a terrific day. Big hug. :)

Totally Cosmic!

May your drives always be out of this Galaxy! (and your putts in the hole!)

Helloooo Speedy GolfSpaceCat!

Is that the Spaceship from Dorf On Golf?

Hopefully, the hazards lurking on the sides of the fairway don't suck up your balls! :~D

Wouldn't it be great to play 18 tiny little weenie holes with Tim Conway and me! :)

Jane Turley said...

Oh Speedy you are such a sentimental sausage! I think it would be a wonderful experience to play a round of golf with you. Provided you won of course; I detect a slight possibility you may be a sore loser!

(Just kiddin';I'm sure you're the perfect gentleman on the green!)

Nurse Amanda Hugankiss said...

Speedcat Hollydale said...

Sandee .... I DO like making pictures ((smile))

Speedcat Hollydale said...

Olga, the course takes me somewhere .... far from where I usually reside. I don't think I could ever really put it into words.
This post was like taking a peek into "where" I go.

Speedcat Hollydale said...

KD .... SURE!

There are no rules as to how many can be in a group of players at my course :-)

Speedcat Hollydale said...

Daisy .... I knew you would percieve that, and YES

I stood in one place for 5 minutes a few years ago and wondered how heaven could be any better.

Then the answer came to me

It was the same, and my Grandfathers were there too

Speedcat Hollydale said...

Muse ... In fact I have two holes in one. The first when I was 14 years old.

Speedcat Hollydale said...

Chris .. a special effects movie??

Interesting idea. I can picture it, and how the story would go.

The Volusian Battle Fleet's invisibility shield had been damaged during the battle with the Kyree, and the Fleet Autarch had not had a chance to order repairs on it yet.

As a result, the fleet happened to be completely visible to carbon-based life forms for 13.4 seconds after it had passed into the atmosphere above Eastern Minnesota near Hollydale.

By some amazing coincidence, Speedcat happen to be taking a photo at that moment, and he caught the Volusian battle-fleet in all its non-invisible glory. But when he snapped a photo a few seconds later, the skies were clear. By that time the malfunctioning invisibility shield had kicked in.

Now in complete stealth mode, the fleet continued on to complete its mission on Earth. It was a mere refueling stop, and it did not take long for the fleet transporters to teleport many socks at random from tumbling clothes dryers all over the world. Surely these were never missed, were they? Once beamed into the quantum reactor containers inside the mother ship's engine, the socks were converted into energy which enabled the fleet to jump to the next star system.

Golf: Pretty pictures. Aliens. Spaceship. Book cover. Nice touch.
I'm not a golfer but once dated a golfer. I had lots of fun in the golf cart with him. And that's all I'm saying about that.....

Did you HAVE to mention Cosmic Brownies? My family loves those things!... and I admit it, so do I! :)

Awesome poem. You did a wonderful job conveying how a relaxing and peaceful day on the green could feel. I also love the photoshopping you did on the photo to make it look like an old plate in the book. Nice touch. I'm gonna stumble this post to share with others.

Mr. Hollydale, your creativity never fails to inspire those of us who may not golf, but certainly try to hit 'em out of the park every day!
Thanks, Mr. Speed-Man, for visiting my blog - now that was an honor!
Stop by again or maybe I'll see you in Twitterland!
Although - pretty darn busy, editing book right now.
Later,

I'm kinda new to golf (and your blog, I find you via Holly's Never Ever Land)

At the moment full games are a mixture of pleasure and frustration - sometimes mostly frustration. But I keep going back for more so there must be something in the game.

I'll let you know when I have my first golf dream.
