Pointless Banter

I love to create pictures, and tell stories ... mostly fictional. Many of my posts are elaborative collaborations of truth and imagination. What this blog is about? Don't ask me. If I had to take a stab at what it is that I do here, my best assumption would be socializing. My favorite posts are when discussions arise in comments, even when they are off topic. I notice that many blogs have a note inside the comment form that says, "Please keep on topic when commenting". Not here. Tell me joke if you like, or what you had for dinner. If I am around ... you will find out what I had too.
My life is fairly systematic and routine. There is not what you would call "excitement" in my work, nor weekly activities. I envy blogs that elaborate on world adventures, travel, and so forth. The odd part of this is that I am as far from being an agenda motivated individual as they come. I make decisions "spur of the moment", have a small problem with procrastination. I would be perfectly happy just "living". I work to pay the bills ... no more, no less. Visions of fame, riches, or power have no meaning to me. What does??

From SPEEDCAT HOLLYDALE PAGE

1. Chicken ~ you all were probably expecting that, no?? OK ... to be more specific, I LIKE TO EAT. Buffets are my playground. Ever want to see a spectacle of chow down, accompany me to Old Country Buffet. I can devour a few chunks a chow, no doubt. Sometimes in the lines, I push my way to the good stuff.

2. Golf ~ I could play golf every day, all day long. This sounds like exaggeration, I know, but completely true. I used to play 3-5 times a week. Those were the good old days. I usually play with my father (also my best friend). Memories of our golf outings are what keep me sane. I can re-live every round and every shot in my head. Cheap therapy. I envision heaven much like this.

3. Faith ~ I do not prescribe to be a perfect example, and realize I am full of flaws. By examining my actions / words / thoughts, the word wholesome does not always define me. I do have a passion though, and feel deeply that I was saved in more way than one. My background involves quite a few negative things ... mostly stemming from alcohol. I have many regrets of events that transpired because of drinking. In retrospect, I have forgiven myself, and hope that others have been able to do the same. My sobriety is a direct result of one prayer. My greatest miracle happened one day over half a decade ago. Daisy ... this is the subject I hinted on a few days ago :-)

4. People ~ I have friends & family that are special. I cannot imagine a day that my phone could not reach the people I care about. Phone ... not so personal. Of course I much prefer the live company of these people, but isn't it great to have the ability to reach out and share happiness, sorrow, worry, and victories? I received a call the other day, and it was full of laughter, children, happiness, and love. It was like travelling through time and space to another location far from my home. I smiled for a long time after that call. I think the term "Uncle" is one of the greatest words to hear. Uncle and Grampa .... you can never go wrong hearing those phrases.

5. Back to this blog ... I spend many a night poking at the keyboard here. I wonder if that sounds strange, or even sad to some people. I see it like this. You cannot replace real life nor real friends with the internet. I do, however, think that the camaraderie of bloggers can be an invaluable "addition" to the repertoire of social engagement. I have two other blogs that are mainly communicative to another ... like brother sister blogs. Think some posts have a lot of comments here? - I have seen 70 posted in minutes before! Laughter. One word with great power. They say that laughter has healing qualities - I believe that. I laugh out loud almost every night between this blog, emails, and that new crazy Twitter thing. Cheap therapy .... good therapy.

6. I could go on and on, but a post any longer than this will be a DRAG. If you want me to go any further, I'll see you in a comment ... or Twitter, or Yahoo GMX Gmail Mookhunter yaddayaddayadda!!!

... I might add some pictures to this post later

Hi Speedy. Wonderful post this! Thank you for sharing these thoughts here. It is nice to get to know you a little better. :)

Hearing about the prayer you mentioned made me smile. I'm very happy for you, and I'm grateful that one prayer could make such a profound change in your life. Also, if you don't mind my saying so, I am proud of you and happy for you in your sobriety. I wish you the best of luck and continued success.

I have a friend who has had a battle with alcoholism for more than 20 years. He attends AA meetings and still struggles daily. He had been sober for more than a year and then had a couple of incidences when he was unable to cope without a drink in his hand. Unfortunately, one drink became two, and then became several. Anyway, like I said he is still struggling and striving to return to sobriety and then hoping to remain there. Alcohol has caused him more grief, sadness, and misery than anything else in his life. It ruined relationships for him, cost him a great deal of money, caused him immense physical pain (from numerous car accidents he was in--one of which nearly killed him and put him in a coma for a month and which has caused him to have memory and socialization problems now)and landed him in jail on several occasions. In spite of all that, he sometimes gets in a kind of downward spiral and still gets the urge to drink again. It has been difficult to watch these things happen to him.

Anyway, I didn't mean to go on so long here.

Thank you again for posting this. :)

Speedcat Hollydale said...

.. ohh dear

HA HAAAAAAA!!!!! What is that brown stuff on your foot??

Speedcat Hollydale said...

Daisey ... you can go on as long as you want here!

The story you have outlined is far too common. I have had NO compulsions to drink since my ONE DAY. None ... zero.

I know this was a gift given to me, just because I asked. Not a bad deal :-)

Thanks for stopping in, and I am so very glad we bumped into each other in the blogosphere Daisy!!

One other thing I wanted to mention. I saw some books at the library today that made me think of you. I haven't read them, so I don't know if they are any good. I also don't know if you like to read or not, but I wanted to tell you about them in case you do.

They are humorous fiction books about golfing. They sounded like they would be perfect for you. :D

The author's name is Rick Reilly, and the book titles are, "Missing Links," "Who's Your Caddy," and "Shanks For Nothing." Like I said, I haven't read them, but I thought of you when I saw them on the shelf at work. Here's a link if you think you might be interested in them. :)

I'm off to bed now as it has been a rather long day today, I'm tired, and I need to be able to get up for church in the morning.

Happy Sunday to you! :)

Speedcat Hollydale said...

That is so cool!!

I do read, and have books similar, had not yet heard of these. Thanks for the link ... I will definately check them out.

Goodnight ... have an excellent Sunday :-)

psssssssssssst.

I have a Santa Shirt.

It's from Santa's Village.

I got it there before they closed down. Whimper. Sad day. It was the best Santa place EVER. Snow, giant mushrooms, and the roofs all looked like they were covered with snow all year round (covered with plaster?) ... the giant mushrooms were like giant (4 foot high) cement mushrooms in bright colors and they were everywhere.

I wanted a mushroom when they closed.

I wonder where they put those? Cuz THAT'S what I would collect if I were to collect something.

Faster Speedy!

The pigs haven't given up yet.

Head for that mud pond.
