New 35W Bridge Nearing Completion in Minneapolis Minnesota

New 35W Bridge Nearing Completion in Minneapolis MinnesotaThe new Interstate 35W bridge over the Mississippi in Minneapolis is nearing completion. So far, the only people to cross it have been wearing hard hats. This picture is not current, but I am going to try and take one myself in the coming weeks. Center cement sections are being finalized at the time of this post.

New 35W Bridge Nearing Completion in Minneapolis MinnesotaIn 24 days, Minnesotans will observe the first anniversary of the collapse of the old bridge. More than 100 were injured and many lost their lives. News of this horrifying day reverberated across the country.
I crossed this bridge the previous day, and was possibly headed towards it the day it collapsed. My day ended up to be longer than I thought. It took hours to get home as traffic from all across the metro area was diverted to make-shift detours.

The new construction could mean unprecedented profits for Flatiron Constructors, a Colorado company owned by a German firm.

Most highway projects, earn 3 or 4 percent profit for contractors. At 4 percent of $234 million, Flatiron would profit only by $8 million or $9 million.

The way things are going, the company will walk away with $60 to $80 million profit from early completion bonuses.

It was a horrifying day for all. I don't view bridges the same anymore. I love the new bridges' look. Yep, big business is all about the bling. Oh well. Have a great day Speedy. :)

I remember when this happened. We were watching the news thinking My Handymans Sister could be driving across it. We couldn't get ahold of anyone on the phone that day..
